My Background

I received my master of arts in counseling from Western Seminary in Portland, OR. My bachelor’s degree is in English from George Fox University in Newberg, OR, and I have a master’s degree in creative writing from the University of Stirling in Scotland, UK. I am a Licensed Mental Health Counseling Associate in Washington State (MC61305753) and a National Certified Counselor (NCC) through the National Board of Certified Counselors. My supervisor is Mary Jane Wilt (LH60737887).

I was raised here in the Pacific Northwest, and I spent most of my growing-up years lost in books. Eventually I realized that I was simply interested in people and their stories. As humans, we have an amazing ability to find patterns and meaning all across our lives, which I think is what most literature is about. I decided to go into counseling when I started to see how those patterns shape the ways we think, feel, and act out our stories. Noticing these things – and learning how to offer myself compassion – changed how I show up in my life, and I wanted to help others on their own journeys to deeper authenticity.

Hanna Maxwell, Licensed Mental Health Counselor Associate

Before becoming a counselor, I worked in various roles in higher education, including admissions and advising. I am a life-long learner, and I enjoy fostering that passion in others.

Much of my time is spent with friends and family. I enjoy writing, taking yoga and barre classes, crocheting, reading a good book, and rearranging the furniture in my apartment.
